V. Khranko: Song for English horn and piano
C. Saint-Saëns: The Swan for English horn and piano
This one-hour program, featuring beautiful works for oboe, English horn, and solo piano, offers a lyrical journey through the elegiac beauty of world music literature. The concert opens with three iconic themes by Ennio Morricone, where cinematic emotion transforms into concert poetry. It continues with the three introspective Intermezzi Op.117 by Johannes Brahms – intimate musical meditations filled with depth and warmth. Franz Schubert’s Piano Sonata in A major, D 664, brings freshness, clarity, and romantic purity.
The third part of the program is dedicated to the unique tonal world of the English horn – an instrument rarely heard in a soloistic role. Massenet’s Élégie, the contemporary miniature by V. Khranko, and Saint-Saëns’ immortal The Swan create an exceptionally emotional atmosphere in which the instrument speaks with a human voice – warm, deep, and profoundly touching.
The concert is conceived as a narrative arc: from cinematic nostalgia, through romantic intimacy, to the elevated lyricism of the Englush horn
